Britannia was established in 1956, the same decade where real development progress was finally achieved in the area. It was annexed to Calgary in 1910. The neighbourhood is bordered by Britannia Drive to the north and 50 Avenue S to the south. Elbow River is also located west of the area.
While Britannia is mainly a residential area, anything one needs is just nearby. Chinook Centre, shops, restaurants, clubs, and bars are all closeby. For those who prefer to have a more active lifestyle, there are pathways within Britannia where people can safely walk, jog, run or bike.
Repsol Sport Centre is also nearby, as well as the private Glencoe Club. The latter has two swimming pools, six badminton courts, seven squash courts, a skating rink, and more.
