Nestled in the popular Bow Valley, Bowness is rich in history and culture. Occupants of the area date back to the end of the Ice Age. It used to be an independent town that was amalgamated into the City of Calgary in 1964.
Bow River borders Bowness in the north and east. The river is the main headstream of south Saskatchewan River, a major river in Canada. Stoney Trail, a major Alberta highway, also borders Bowness to the west.
One of Bownesians' favorite places is Bowness Park, a popular park in Calgary. This urban park centers on the Bow River. The park is visited all-year round with people picnicking in the summer, and ice skating in the winter.
