As the name probably suggests, this is a place with a large concentration of Chinese population--the third largest in terms of population and the largest in terms of area in the country. Chinatown celebrated its Centennial anniversary in 2010 but records show that Chinese presence in Calgary dates back to the 1850s.
Chinatown is situated along Centre Street. It is immediately west of Downtown East Village and northeast of Downtown Calgary. The neighbourhood is also near International Avenue, which is a business revitalization zone in Calgary.
One of the most famous buildings in the area is the Chinese Cultural Centre. It houses the Dr. Henry Fok Cultural Hall, which was patterned after the Temple of Heaven in Beijing. As far as shopping goes, everything you need is at Dragon City Mall. The mall also has a great lineup of restaurants.
