The neighbourhood was known by a number of names before it settled on Discovery Ridge. It used to be Jackson's Valley, then New Discovery. With its final name, Discovery Ridge was established in 1990.
Discovery Ridge is an apt name considering how people will discover the beauty of nature when in the community--the magnificent Elbow River borders the neighbourhood to the south and residents can also enjoy a glimpse of the Rockies to the west.
The community is on the western edge of the city. It is bordered by Glenmore Trail to the north and the Tsuu T'ina first nation reserve to the south. 69 Street W is to the east of Discovery Ridge while to the west is the city limits.
