Most Calgarians just call the area East Village. But the Downtown area is meant to identify this as a Calgarian neighbourhood rather than the New York one. The area has a great mix of residential, commercial and industrial buildings, which makes it a complete town.
Downtown East Village has everything you need--it has a number of good restaurants and a lot of shops to cater to your needs and whims. There are also a lot of work opportunities available.
The area also has a lot of historical and cultural significance. In 2008, archaeologists found historic dumps, a stone circle, and fire hearths that date back 3,300 years. Downtown East Village is also home to the National Music Centre, the first institution in Canada dedicated to all forms of music.
