Hillhurst is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Calgary. The first homes were built in the area in the 1880s. But it wasn't until 1914 that Hillhurst was established as a neighbourhood. The neighbourhood's community organization is lumped with a neighbouring town: Hillhurst-Sunnyside Community Association.
The neighbourhood is bordered by the beautiful Bow River to the south. The body of water is the centre of various walking and biking pathways in the area.
Hillhurst is home to the Calgary Kookaburras, a women's Australian football team based in the neighbourhood. The district is also served by four schools: Hillhurst Community School, Queen Elizabeth Elementary School, Queen Elizabeth Junior and Senior High School, and Southern Alberta Institute of Technology - SAIT.
