Palliser was named after noted geographer and explorer John Palliser. He was credited for exploring what would later be known as Western Canada. The neighbourhood of Palliser was established in 1967. The community of Pump Hill was part of Palliser until 1991.
The neighbourhood is surrounded by major road systems. It is bordered to the north by 90 Ave SW and to the south by Southland Drive SW. To the east of Palliser is 19 Street SW and 24 Street SW is to the west.
There are many things to do within and near the community. The Tom Brook Athletic Park, for example, is located within Palliser. Those looking to for pathways, the Weaselhead Flats is a good place to hike or bike. For those looking for a cultural experience, the Heritage Park Historical Village is just nearby. There are also a number of neighbouring shopping centres like Glenmore Landing, Chinook Centre, and Southcentre Mall.
