Red Deer is nearly the halfway point of the Calgary-Edmonton Corridor. It is also within the Aspen parkland, which is the largest borean-grassland transition zone in the world. It got its name from Red Deer River, which runs through the city.
The city, which was established in 1913, is known for its oil and agricultural distribution. It also has its own airport, the Red Deer Regional Airport, which serves general aviation. There is also a local bus within the community, the Red Deer Transit. It also has its own health care provider, the Red Deer Regional Hospital.
