Renfrew was established in 1950. It is a residential neighbourhood with no commercial or industrial facilities but it has Edmonton Trail and 16th Avenue close by--both have small businesses that cater to the residents' needs.
The neighbourhood has preserved its laidback culture even decades after its establishment. Avenue Magazine named Renfrew one of the 50 Best Neighbourhoods in 2014. The lack of industries keep the area peaceful and quiet. The area has a Ukranian background as evidenced by the Ukrainian Pioneer Park, a favourite among residents, and the two Ukrainian churches in the area.
Renfrew is also surrounded by major roads making Downtown Calgary, commercial and industrial facilities, and the Calgary International Airport easily accessible. It is south of Trans-Canada Highway and is bordered by Deerfoot Trail to the East.
