The urbanization of Saddle Ridge is a continuous process. It was established in 1960 for agricultural purposes. Urbanization was supposed to start in the 1990s but was postponed and the project finally pushed through in the mid-2000s.
While some acreages remain in Saddle Ridge, the neighbourhood has a dynamic commercial hub known as Saddletown Circle. West of it is Saddle Ridge Industrial Area, which started construction in 2018. Within Saddle Ridge is Savanna, which is a whole community on its own. It is centred on its very own commercial hub, the Savanna Bazaar. Savanna is aimed to be the heart of Saddle Ridge.
Saddle Ridge is near the Calgary International Airport as well as major roads like the Stoney Trail, which borders it to the east, and Metis Trail, which borders the neighbourhood to the west.
