Shaganappi, which is of Cree origin, was annexed to Calgary in 1910. It was established as a neighbourhood in 1949. It is situated between 17 Avenue SW and the Bow River.
The neighbourhood looks very beautiful with its greenery complemented by the blue of the Bow River. The tall buildings of downtown Calgary can also be seen from Shaganappi.
Among the more popular attractions in the neighbourhood is the Shaganappi Point Golf Course, which is just north of Bow Trail. The 27-hole golf course has been a favourite among Shaganappi residents and the rest of the Calgarians since 1930.
Shaganappi is served by the Alex Ferguson Elementary, a public school. The neighbourhood also has an active communite centre that hosts a myriad of activities for its residents.
