Signal Hill was annexed to Calgary in 1956. It was officially established as a neighbourhood in 1987. It is bordered to the north by 17th Ave, Glenmore Trail to the south, and Sarcee Trail to the east.
On the southern slopes of Signal Hill is Battalion Park, which is not just a nature park but a heritage park as well. It contains four geoglyphs--numbers representing battalion numbers of Albertan heroes during World War I. There is also an elementary school in Signal Hill named after the park.
There are a number of shopping centres within and near Signal Hill. Among them are Signal Hill Centre, Westhills Town Centre, Westmarker Square, and Signature Park Plaza. The neighbourhood also has its own eponymous library.
