Located at the southern edge of Calgary, Somerset was established in 1987. It is bordered to the south by Stoney Trail and to the east by Macleod Trail.
Within the community, residents have access to many green spaces and pathways that are great for hiking and biking. There are also a number of playgrounds for children. Speaking of children, they are served by at least three schools: Haultain Memorial Elementary, Queensland Downs Elementary, and Wilma Hansen Junior High School.
Somerset is also near famous recreational centres. Spruce Meadows, for example, is nearby. It is a multipurpose sports facility known for its equestrian show jumping complex. There is also the South Fish Creek Recreational Complex in Midnapore.
