St. Andrews Heights was established in 1953, more than four decades after it was annexed to Calgary. It is bordered to the north by the Trans-Canada Highway for easy access. It is also bordered by Toronto Crescent to the south, Crowchild to the east, and 29 Street to the west.
There are a number of important institutions within the community. The Foothills Medical Centre, the largest hospital in Alberta, is located at the northwestern area of St. Andrews Heights. McMahon Stadium, which is operated by the University of Calgary, is just northeast of the neighbourhood.
St. Andrews Heights is a dream neighbourhood for athletes and athletic individuals. Foothills Athletic Park--which houses tennis courts, soccer field, baseball field and track-and-field area, among others--is also located northeast of the community.
